Default Cannon XH A1 best results when producing a DVD

Got one of these soming soon there seems to be a few options to making a dvd
shoot in HD > edit in HD > output to DVD
Shoot in HD > output to PC in SD > edit in SD > output to DVD
Shoot in SD > edit in SD > and output in DVD

if im producing a DVD shooting and editing in SD is the simplest option but would it any of the other options result in better quality when producing a DVD

    Thanks

I'm sure that some people would argue that the first route would optimise quality (I've heard that argument before). However, as suggested, the simplest option would be to shout, edit and output in SD. I'm all for keeping things as efficient as possible, and if the client wants DVD output only, I'd go for this route. However, if your PC can "handle" editing in HD, you may wish to consider shooting in HD. this would enable you to:

    • Use the output for use in any potential show real (and ensure continuity with future projects)
    • Provide Blu Ray output of the project in the future if the client requests this
    • Provide HD edits for online use if the client requests this in the future
    • Provide you with personal experience with working in HD

    Thanks for the reply
I will do some testing and compare the results on a big screen. Im using a dell studio 1737 t9550 processor 4gb ram and windows7 64bit so im not sure how well that will handle the hd footage. Ive edited avchd stuff before using power director which proxys the files but im switching to sony vegas which doesnt seem to do that part as well. If there is a large quality difference i will have to upgrade my system.
    Thanks
