Thread: No sound when importing previously edited footage

Default No sound when importing previously edited footage

Hi. K, here's my problem. I've recently turned over to Premiere after using Final Cut. When I import raw footage and play it back, I get sound, no problem. However, if I import footage that I've previously edited (on final cut and I-movie) I can't get any sound. Why is this? The footage I'm using is fine, and plays back on the camcorder, tv, etc, and yet there's just nothing when I put it into Premiere. I haven't altered the audio rate or anything, so am stumped as to what it might be. Hope you can help.
    Thanks

Have a look at the thread: "No sound in Captured avi file...." A few of us are having problems with avi files captured elsewhere and then being edited in Premiere Pro.

hey thanks. Although it's not avi files i'm having trouble with - it's just previously edited dv footage that i import from dv tapes - not encoded as an avi or anything. It's really weird. In that previous post, one guy states he can play the clip and get sound so long as it isn't in the actual timeline. But I can't even hear anything playing it in the monitor.
    Tricky, huh?

To clarify: My problem comes with mpegs, not avi files.
The clip plays in the preview (left side) monitor with sound. When it's placed in the timeline, the sound gets lost.
