Thread: Vegas 9 and rendering. I'm so lost.

  1. Default Vegas 9 and rendering. I'm so lost.

    Dear All

I've made a little video of my son for the year. Its a mix of photos, video and some mp3 of songs from the year. I usually use Windows Movie Maker, but felt I could move up and get more into it this year, so bought vegas 9. I've finished the video but am having massive troubles understanding renxdering and all the options. I've read lots of tutorials and watched many a YouTube video, but am still lost. I want to finally put this on DVD and I'm in the UK, so we use PAL.

    My PC specs are
    Sony VGN-NR38E
    CPU - intel dual core prcessor T2390 - 1.86Ghz
    Memory - 2GB/Go DDR2 SDRAM
    HDD - 160GB/Go
    OS - Vista Home Premium

Media formats - JPEG for the photos
    MPG for the video
    MP3 for the music

    Project settings - See image

I've tried a few times and keep being told that the system is low on memory about 50% of the way through rendering. I've got 70GB free on my C drive.

Any help would be wonderful. Thanks for looking and helping.

Match your project to your video media.

    What size are your JPGs?

What are you attempting to render to, that it is failing?

Could somebody confirm on the ability of Vegas to use MP3?

Ok, there are some flavours of MP3 that Vegas has difficulty with.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quick.

First off, trying to match the media? Im not sure how to do this. All the media is from the same camera, dos that mean its matching?

Here is a random jpegs details

I've tried a few things with rendering so far.
MPEG-2 with a default template. Then with both MPEG-2 and DVD output.
I've tried as an avi file.
I've installed DVD prep, which I read can do all this for you, but again stops a little way in.

Ive just read that perhaps you can unclick the include audio stream and do something else later, is that right? Ive been trying with it on so far.

    Hmmm . ..

My File Version Build is 8763 - so there would appear to be an update that has been included. Which kinda indicates, to me to ask you just what Update of Vegas 9 are you currently running? To find this in Vegas, go to:

    HELP | About Vegas Pro

and read off the Version and Build number and post back here - yeah?

OK, also when I say match it isn't to match all your video is the same format - my mistake - but to Match the Media TO the Project settings. We've covered this heaps on this Forum, just do a search.

Now onto your JPGs. IMO they seem awfully large, this combined with your version of Vegas and you not matching your Project to the Media will most likely put enough strain on Vegas and your CPU to THEN try and format for MPEG to make the whole thing fall-over. Plus it would appear you are using the same drive to render to as your system. It isn't necessarily how much space you have, it is about how much CPU thrashing about you are putting the system under that it is most likely creating this situ.

    Hello

Vegas Pro 9.0c 896 build Does that sound right?

I've seen that my video footage was shot at 640x480x32. Can I make just change the project settings now Ive finished, or should I have done this at the start? Can I just fiddle it in a custom template? Is the 32 section the frame rate?

Is rendering to the same drive not right? Which one should it be going to? I've an external harddrive, would that work? Or is my machine too lame?

    Thanks again

OK, Ive now matched the media, worked out how to get rid of all unused media in the project media tab, went to render and didnt last for more than two seconds before it stopped. Just said it couldnt work out why.

No, 32 is NOT the frame rate. Use the "Match Media Settings" in Project Settings. Did you do this?

I always SET my Project to my main Media from the outset. Can you change it? Sure you can.

One can render to the same drive as the system - I don't. I have an array of HDDs and a removable HDDs Snap Caddie.

    Here are those project settings

I managed to render to an external hard drive, and when it was finished I was left with
a 3GB mpg file and and some sfl files. When I play the movie, it works, but has no sound. Do I need to now somehow combine these files together?
