Default noob alert: is there an easy way to trim videos in premiere pro

I am new to video editing, and I have only been taking videos with my canon rebel t1i. Im wondering if there is a way to edit the .mov files with less headache. It seems like I have to go through many steps just to cut out a few seconds of video...

Anyone have any tips, hints, guides, or prayers??

What version of premiere? CS5 was the first version to properly support DSLR footage.
