Thread: Dell Optiplex 745

  1. Default Dell Optiplex 745

    Hi there!

I'm looking to purchase a new PC for Christmas. The most demanding of tasks that I will use it for are standard definition video editing, creating home movies, and burning CDs and DVDs. I'm on a tight budget.

So I've been looking through some local offers and found this (Keep in mind it is New Zealand currency):
Xmas sale! Dell P D3.4(dual core) with 19"LCD for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
And I was wondering if this would be a good choice. Reviews of this model are mixed...

Gracias! You're help is much appreciated,

In my humble opinion, whilst Video editing software can run on it; it may feel very slow and the disk drive will become full rather quickly.
That Dual Core only has 1Gb of RAM; and a single 80Gb hard disk.

Hey, thanks. Can I ask now what you think of this one?

I urge you to take more time to choose a PC; and not to rush; just because of Christmas. I recommend:
    1) make a list of the Software which you will want to use. Check what the manufacturers say is the minimal requirement.
    2) make (of find) a list of the different CPUs. Your second link was to a Pentium 4. Very different to the first link.
    3) consider what version of Windows software comes on the PC. Will the software you want to run actually run on that particular copy of Windows.

I am hoping another poster can offer you better guidance.
