Thread: Anamorphic dvd encoding

    Default Anamorphic dvd encoding

I have a video which is in 640x480 (which is 4:3) resolution.

I have to crop this video to 640x272(which is 2.35:1).

After cropping, i want to burn this to a dvd (anamorphic dvd). So that, when this dvd is played on 4:3 TV, it should add black bars.

I have sony vegas pro and dvd architect.

So, pls help me. How to create anamorphic video

In my experience both DVD players and TV's try to make sense of the signal they receive and zoom/crop etc as they think fit. And I suspect they will only make an assumption of 16:9 or 4:3.

If you want a 2.35:1 image on a 4:3 screen, by far the simplest way is to keep everything 4:3. So the Vegas project is 4:3, the files you pass to DVDA are 4:3, the DVDA project is 4:3 and the DVD you burn is 4:3. Your DVD player and TV will just see this as a 4:3 image and won't try any fancy conversion. If your setup sees black bars top and bottom and tries to be clever, don't use black bars, use a subtle coloured background.
