Default New To HD: external hard-drive not accepting large video files

Just got a Canon HV30, and want to retain the quality since I'll be submitting the finished product to film festivals etc. However, this does mean large files, with a 10 minute clip taking up about 5 GB.

Decided to use my external hard drive to store the files, but it's not accepting the larger ones - although it has the capacity for everything I've captured.

Is there a better way of doing it? New to dealing with HD.

Is the drive formatted in Fat 32? That only allows for files up tpo a couple of gigs in size. Make sure it's formatted to NTFS.

    Thanks, you're probably right.

It's a Mac, so I don't think it can write to NTFS. Any ideas?

Sorry, I don't know a thing about file systems used by MACs. Shouldn't be hard to google it though. Search for Mac file system "storage capacity".
