    what would be the best format to save footage for further editing. initial editing in PPcs5.

    I would suggest that you match the original source footage properties.

    I don't know if others will agree with me but i personaly use .mov. The renderings are fast and quality is good.I've tried lots of formats but this is the one I prefer...

    If you follow what Marc said the footage shouldn't be recompressed except where you have altered it. The other way is to produce an uncompressed lossless .AVI but these can be big and difficult to use but you don't loose any quality when rendering.
