    Default FCP keeps losing frames

    Mac book Pro
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo
    2 GB memory

Really don't know what the problem is but every time I edit I always get a message that pops up stating I lost frames. Even if I click a point on the timeline it will do this, especially when there is a transition.

Plus I'm a newbie at this stuff

It sounds like your Mac is having trouble keeping up with the data rate, either decoding or simply the hard disk throughput. For transitions it's having to read and decode two video streams at the same time as well as calculate and display the transition itself.

On the timeline, top left there is a dropdown menu labelled RT. This menu allows you to set how the system displays the frames. Set this to unlimited RT and dynamic quality and see how it goes....

What codec are you using for editing? I found my macbook was pretty much limited to ProRess 422 (LT) if I wanted to do anything remotely real time.
