    Default Canon MV550i - Firewire

    Hello

    New to video editing.

I want to transfer my tape to PC using my firewire card. I see that I need a Canon firewire cable - they are 44!

I have searched your forum and get the impression that I do not need to purchase the Canon cable and that an ordinary firewire cable will do.

Have I understood this correctly? I don't want to ruin my camera - as Canon imply - by not using their cable.

    Many thanks.

any firewire cable should do the job just as well as a canon branded one, but it might be best to avoid the really cheap ones.

You'll probably want a 4 pin to 6 pin one if your using a desktop pc, should be less than a tenner, I think.

Canon are charging how much? Crikey on a stick :-/

    Thank god you looked elsewhere

If you have a dekstop PC, like Bgarthp (try saying that with hiccups) saod, a 4 to 6 pin cable will probably be what you need. You can get one from here:

    http://www.dabs.com/uk/Search2/Produ...hrase=firewire

    but if you're using a laptop, you;ll probably need a 4 to 4 cable:

(i have no affiliation with Dabs BTW, I just trust them )
