Thread: 5.1 Problems in DVDA 5

  1. Default 5.1 Problems in DVDA 5

    I'm having problems with AC3 5.1 audio in DVDA 5.

    I render both the video and audion using Vegas 9 from the same MPEG2 file. Vegas correctly identifies the 6-channel stream and I render it using the Dolby Pro plug-in. When I open it with Nero Wave editor it shows all 6 channels as it should.

    When I preview the audio file in DVDA using the explorer, it says the audio has been downmixed to stereo, yet the project properties say 5.1.

    When I add the video file, the video and audio are drastically out of sync. Yet I rendered them both in Vegas.

    I'm not sure if the sync problem is a result of the downmixing, but until I correct that I can't address the sync problem.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm not entirely sure I understand your workflow - can we clarify?

    So - my method;

    Render loop region in Vegas - video as MPEG2 DVDa compatible video file with no audio.

    Render same loop region as AC3 5.1 track giving it the same file name (only the extension is different of course).

    Import video media to DVDA and (if DVDA doesn't automatically spot the AC3 track), use 'Media Replace' button to import AC3 track as audio for MPEG2 video file.

    Is this roughly what you're doing?

    Exactly right. 5.1 turns out downmixed to stereo and badly out of sync.

    Ok, so when you're importing the AC3 to DVDa - is it correct at this point? As in, on the timeline it's the same length etc...

    It looks like I may have a corrupted MPEG2 source file. It plays fine in some PC players, but chokes in others. I'll have to do a bit more investigating.

    Thanks for the suggestions-- you pointed me in the right direction!
