    Default Deleting Unwanted Video

    Hi,

Newbie question here. I have quite a lot of useless footage taking up valuable space on my hard drive. For example I may only want to keep 30 seconds of a 5 minute clip. Is there any way to destructively chop out the bits I want & delete the rest - without rendering the new footage. Most of the software I have seen only deletes the reference to the footage but leaves the original footage alone. I have Premiere Pro & Sony Vegas.

    Any help much appreciated.

Software such as VideoRedo and MPEG ClipStream can "chop" bits out of video files without rendering, however, they all work on the principle of non-linear editing (i.e keeping your original file intact). Where they differ from Premiere and Vegas is their ability to save the sections without going through the sometimes lengthy process of re-encoding.

Many thanks for the reply Marc. I downloaded the VideoRedo trial but it didn't seem to like mp4 & converting my files prior to this sort of defeats the object.

However regarding Clipstream, did you mean StreamClip? Streamclip is freeware & it did seem to do what I wanted (results look fine but Ive yet to do an in depth comparison with the original footage - I'm not sure if there is some conversion going on somewhere rather than just creating an identical subclip)

Confusingly Clipstream also exists as well & seems to do something similar.

    Anyway thanks again
