Default resolution of Panasonic NV-GS4 ?

Hi Simple question, what resolution can a Panasonic NV-GS4 take video? Seems to say nothing in the manual, see on net that it might be "MiniDV" the definition of this seems to vary, elsewhere .8 megapixels, but whats that in pixels 720 by 480?

It's a mini DV camcorder. So that means Standard Definition with a resolution of either 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).

Thanks Mark, thats about what I suspected, pretty rubbish, well the camera is pretty old, saw HD camera smaller than a fag packet, with really nice results for 140.. tempting.

The small HD camera will give excellent results if held steadily with no pans or high movement - it will probably loook better in these conditions. IN high movement, it is likely you will get compression artifacts etc. The old Mini DV camera will give pretty much constant results no matter what the conditions (with the exception of low light). Other factors to consider are portability and the use of solid state media.

It's a compromise at the end of the day!

    Default Thanks

Thanks Marc, I would use it mainly for recording myself paint pictures, so it would be on a tripod, so maybe this is the way. Currently when I transfer the video from the camera to the computer it does it in real time , ie. 1hour of video takes 1 hour to transfer, so the camera is unusable a lot. Would the video transfer be faster with a solid state memory? Suppose it would, because its just like connecting say a memory stick?

Then I would recommend getting one of those cheap HD cameras. It would be ideal for your use, particularly if you do minimal editing.
