Why am I an editor? ...because I'm a bad filmer!

Remarkably good sound. Record from the desk?

I wouldn't say it's from the desk, it's just the quality of out door music. There is no room to mess it up.

I had two options, pull a headphone aux off the FOH console or use the cameras miking. Last year I pulled off the board and was not that happy with the feel of the sound. This year I set up an HDC-SD9 about 6-7 feet high on a tripod above the audience, it uses 5 microphones to record so I went for the "real feel" more like a outdoor concert to add to capturing the moment.

I would have to disagree on this one, there is a LOT of room to mess up. I intern doing live band FOH mixing so I am very familiar the way sound waves work and I know a lot about miking. I listened to the other guys playback from a tripod same level as mine sligthy to the side and it is horrible let me tell you (different model camera of course). I set up mine literally in front of the FOH booth directly in the middle to get the best stereo effect then made sure I was far enough back to avoid distortion but not too far as to loose the wave strength (all of this of course is already predetermined by whoever was mixing FOH that day so half my work in positioning was done I just looked for the FOH)
