Thread: Tripod Heads - Screws

    Default Tripod Heads - Screws

    Wasn't entirely sure about where to put this. I was wondering whether mounting screws on tripods are the same size and whether camera threads (the hole in the bottom not sure what it's called ) are all the same size.

    In my experience, yes, they are a standard size.

    Most camcorders have a 1/4" whitworth thread socket. Some pro camcorders also have a 3/8" whitworth thread socket as well.
    The thread on the top of your tripod if it"s a consumer or prosumer will, almost certainly be a 1/4" whitworth.

    This is not the same as a standard 1/4" or 3/8" thread which is BSF (or British Standard fine).

    I really must get out more

    I am currently thinking to make some custom screws for a camera bracket I am making, and have found the correct designation of the thread in quarter inch whitworth is ;
