Red face Doubts in MPEG2 files from Sony HDD SR1 cam

    Hello.
I'd appreciate your advices in this topic:
I have a sony HDD cam sr1, wich records video in avchd for hd quality, and mpeg2 for standard quality.
When i record things in standard quality, i can preview the files in the camera. BUT When i open them in my mac, i cannot listen to the sound, just see the image. The same thing happens when I open it in final cut, so i cannot edit or preview this files.
I dont really know how to decode the sound.

Does anybody know what to do best?
I use Final Cut pro 6 for editing.

    Thank you very much

    Default Hey!

    Hi there
I had the same problem a few years ago. and seeing as this is more than a month old you may have found your response.
Sony and Macs dont mix. and so the formats they work within dont like to play along.
What you need to do is download a free software called MPEG Streamclip. Which will convert your Mpeg into another movie file(DV, Quicktime whatever) and it should then work.
IF not, you may need to purchase a quicktime update for the mac, which allows you to see the quicktime files, and so lets MPEG streamclip see the files also. think its about 13quid and is called MPEG-2 or something like that
    Hope it helps
    Matt

To the best of my knowledge an MPEG2 file has the sound interleaved with the video (it's called a "muxed" soundtrack) and FCP (and most other editing software) is not set up to play this kind of sound track. Your sound has to be separate from your picture.
