Default Best editing software for Canon HV40

I have read through the "Comparison of video editing software" in Wikipedia, but still need advice. I am not a pro, but make quite good home DVDs. In the digital era, I used a combination of programs, eg TMPGEnc.
I bought Pinnacle Ultimate version 14 and I'm very disappointed. Want to throw it away- struggle with capturing, importing m2t files, writing DVD's, etc.
    These are my specs:

Any advice on a good programme? Does not need to be to cheap, but al least produce a decent image.
    Thanks

Many here would suggest Sony Vegas to you BUT I would suggest:

MoviePlus X3 Digital Video Studio – Serif

This comes from my personal experience of using the tool.

Now can I suggest that you download trails of 2 good video editors for windows then decide which one is for you based on personal preference.

    Here are some suggestions:

Sony Creative Software - Download: Vegas Movie Studio HD
Adobe - Adobe Premiere Elements : 30-day trial

Whilst I'd be one of the many who'd recommend Sony Vegas, I would agree with BigBen that Serif do make excellent value products. In fact we've recently loaded Movie Plus onto the ICT suite at one of the school I work at - thought it's not been used in earnest yet so I'd better get learning.

The only downside with Serif is once they've got your email address you get constantly pestered - and it's not always clear what version is which as they will market (ie send out on cover DVDs of sell at under 10) products from old ranges which confusingly have higher version numbers than the current range!

Indeed, they have their problems but their software is fantastic.
