    Lightbulb DIY Lampshade Soft Box

So I thought I would try to make a small softbox out of a square lampshade from walmart. Using a piece of wood, a light socket and a 500W cfl bulb. Cover the end in white nylon. This is what I have had time to do so far:

    Removed metal bracket:

Cut a piece of wood to match opening:

Drilled 4 zip tie holes and one center hole for my light socket:

Here is my socket of choice:

I modified some pieces from my old erector set to attach the fixture to a tripod puck.

Mounted the lampshade to the socket with a zip tie on all 4 corners, and one on the socket, along with 1 screw:

I went with some heavy duty waterproof 2 conductor cabling and an end plug (removed ground as for I only have 2 conductors on the socket & cable) not to mention I AM drawing 105W.

Used two bungee cords for support to keep from sagging under weight at such an odd angle.

Now I just need to work on attaching filters:

With some adjusting of the bungee cords placement I am able to crank the tripods head all the way up for a little extra height

For those who are wondering my bulb consumes 105W and puts out an equivalent to 500W incandescent light power @ 5000k on the kelvin scale which is closer to sunlight than your average light bulb. I paid $25 for it online:

All in all it breaks down to almost nothing minus the fact the lampshade does not collapse.
