Default Transfer of 8mm to DVD

Could someone tell me the lbest way (least painful) of transferring reels of 8mm film to a PC for editing and subsequent burning to DVD.
Projector, splicer, digital Video camera and PC running XP are all in place. Its just the best way of completing this task that's unclear.

    Many thanks

In addition it is worth noting that any image stabilising function on your video camera should be disabled for this process.

Post back if you need any more details.

COMPAQ something or other with 500Gb Boot Disk, 1Tb external Firewire Disk, 4Gb Memory and a super duper sound card, 19" TFT Monitor etc etc etc
    Sony TRV33e : Sony TRV310e : Canon XM2
Sony Vegas Studio editions to v11
