    Smile Chroma Key Question

    Hey everyone,

New to the forums, so pardon if this is a repeat thread!

I am new to editing in general, and I am wondering if there is a way to take an existing video without a green/blue screen, and edit it using chroma key over another existing video... to get the same effect of a green-screen video.

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

Well, you can but unless it's got some nice solid color coverage like a green screen would have your results will be iffy.

Perhaps using a mask might work better? Kind of depends on what the subject of the different pieces of footage is I think.

    - Quick answer? No. - The longer answer? . . N . . . o . . . .

    However:

IF - the clip was a still shot, without movement

    . . and . .

IF - one had another a still of the shot without any movement or panning or zooming

    . . and . .

IF - the lighting didn't change throughout the scene

Then one could employ the process of "Difference" compositing, but I'm betting you don't have any of the options above filled?

Chroma keying means using ONE existing solid colour (eg blue or green) as a "key" to then remove and retain those as transparent areas - period. The fact that you are asking the question more than implies that you aren't fully aware of the process involved. Mind you I have success fully CK out a blue sky and then substituted that for another design - nice!
