Default Clipping vs Cropping in Premiere PRO--not a noob!

    Hello all!

I've been editing with Premiere 6 and 6.5 for 3 years now and I thought I had clipping and cropping down pat. Clipping reduces the size of the video and replaces it with black (or other default color). Cropping removes pixels, but then resizes the video to whatever you captured it at.

BUT...I just upgraded to Pro, and I swear to god I played with some footage for over an hour with the Crop filter and Clip filter. The problem is, for me, both filters Clip. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. I want to crop.

How does one get Premiere Pro to NOT clip when it should be cropping, i.e., I've selected the crop filter? In 6.5 it was soooo easy. There must be an option I'm not selecting.

    Thanks!

I think you have to use crop and combine it with resize in pro.
