Thread: Sony Vegas Pro 9... video editing??

  1. Question Sony Vegas Pro 9... video editing??

Hi there, i'm new to the forums.. i found them looking for help on my situation with sony vegas pro 9

anyway, i recently hooked up my Hauppauge HD PVR and recorded a couple clips from MW2, hoping to edit them into montages and things of the sort.. Well, i open the files up in windows media player, and they play fine.. but when i open the file into sony vegas pro, only the audio works, and the video loads as a black screen with "(Media Offline)" on it...

i've never used sony vegas before, and have not edited videos.. but in seeing tutorials on the internet, i SHOULD be seeing clips of the video..

    thanks in advance

This sort of question has been asked dozens of times here and all over the internet. For whatever reason Vegas does not recognise the type of file that your PVR has created. This will mean either installing a "codec" or transcodng the footage to a format that Vegas does recognise using a program such as "Super".

Your first step is to find out exactly what format the files are in.

Download the free program GSpot, run it against your video files and that will give us a clue.

There's also quite a bit of stuff thrown up if you Google Hauppage Vegas and PVR

    thanks tim

I downloaded the GSpot program, and opened my video in it, but i'm not quite tech-savvy enough to understand what it all means..

in the Container section it says:
    3gp4: 3GPP Media (.3GP) Release 4
    - isom: MP4 Base Media v1 [ISO 14496-12:2003]

It's all pretty much mumbo jumbo to me too, but it is often enough to work through the problem. What does it say in the video section. Specifically codec and status?

Are you running the latest version of Pro 9? (version 9e - Help | About will tell you)?
This sounds like the incompatibility problem between the latest Quicktime and Vegas which was overcome in version 9d.

Sorry, I meant Help | About in Vegas Pro. Or it says on the splash screen whilst loading - Immediately under where it says Vegas Pro 9.0, it'll say (Version 9.0x Build xxxxx)

it just says Version 9.0 (build 593)

i heard that for some reason Sony Vegas Pro 9 isn't so great with the hauppauge hd pvt, and was recommended to Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c so maybe i'll give that a try

First off, I'd give the latest version of 9 a go. You have the release version. There have been 5 updates since. Just download from the Sony Creative Software site.
