Thread: I thought my Spec was Ok - Help :(

  1. Default I thought my Spec was Ok - Help :(

    Hi there,

I've agreed to do some filming and editing for a friend, and thought i better check out how my laptop shapes up - so i;ve downloaded some HD video's / footage from the net, and have opened up Adobe Premiere CS4.

It's not looking good - the footage in the source windows jumps / stutters and the processor / fan on my laptop is going a bit crazy (it seems to always do this when i even watch flv video's online - like you tube).

    Anyhow, spec is as follows:

    HP Pavilion dv6000
    AMD Turion 64 x 2 TL60 2mhz
    3gb RAM
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition
nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Video Card
220gb Hard Disk (with 55gb Free)

Can anyone give me some advice on some quick fixes - as I'm in a bit of a pickle! :(

    many thanks for anyone's help,

Usually the way round this problem is to pre render the clips on the time line this creates a proxy video at a lower resolution so you can edit smoothly. I'm not sure how Premiere works so I can't tell you what to do. I use Sony Vegas which has a preview quality setting option to get around this issue with lower spec computers.
