Thread: basic lighting suggestions for a novice

  1. Default basic lighting suggestions for a novice

I am new to the world of video production and I need a few basic suggestions, primarily in the area of video lighting. I'm contemplating recording sermons at my church, and I would be using a camera in the $600-$700 range. I want to make sure I have the best lighting situation, but it may not be possible to have a three-point light set up because of space, budget, and the inconvenience it could cause at my church. We may be able to work with only one or two lights at best. Beyond the use of the typical kinds of lights used for video, what other things could we do, such as adjusting the main overhead lights as well as the lights directly above the main stage platform? In addition, is there anything I could do with video editing software to enhance the picture with less than ideal lighting?

A picture of the area that needs lighting may be useful.

I don't have any video footage, but this picture kind of gives a basic idea what the area looks like that I would want to be filming.
