Default Big Mac Super Shrink Me

This video has taken well over 9 months to pull together. A study of the Big Mac over a 24 year period.
Have I pulled enough info together in a suitable time without wasting the audiences time?

I know nothing about youtube, even less about video

Great job Leo, I was only watching a consumer program last night which was covering a similar issue with other products available from supermarkets here in the UK. This was even sneakier in that they kept the same packaging size but had less product inside.

I thought you did a good job of presenting the information.

However after the spider video you did, I do have a doubt in the back of my mind about this videos validity.

Thanks for this snappy reply. Going to McD headquarters was a little scary for me and I was fairly straight up with what I was up to. They pulled perfect poker faces. I was really happy they sent me a e-mail after my visit.

The old footage is a little tricky to really prove as you have issues with camera lens's and to be honest you need all the same equipment and distance relationships to be totally sure.

I did have some insider info help me on this topic, that what prompted me to pull this together. Sadly I have had very little time to make a video of late.

Lets just say the spider video took 3 hours to make, this took a good 4 weeks solid (broken up over many months), there were many changes before it was uploaded online. The first edit was over 6 mins long and the source video footage was well over 60 mins long. I started on this video early 2009.

    Welcome back Rollin'.

I love it that you manage to get your trademark explosion in by using the justification that that was the old footage you have for comparison.

I think the difficulty with this video is it doesn't know where it wants to go.

First and foremost you are going that extra mile to ensure that you are presenting evidence in as fair and balanced manner as you possibly can. And you offer no opinion, you leave that to the viewer.

This is admirable, but doesn't necessarily make for an "entertaining" video.

Being somewhat experienced both in making and watching videos, you understand all that and try to make the film less dry by leaving the little teaser about the explosion (give'em something to look forward to) and by speaking as fast as you possibly can without losing the sense of what you're saying. Similarly, again to ensure you're not misrepresenting anything, you read word for word what is in MacD's email whilst showing it throughout.

Now, I appreciate it is not your intention to make an entertaining video as such, but equally it's a bit rushed and not quite "dry" enough to be simply evidence.

I *think* I'd rather see an opinionated and lively video with much less evidence, but then I'd probably be challenging the evidence.

Perhaps it's a good initial foray into gathering evidence from around the world.

Maybe you should consider two videos - one which is very short and snappy and deliberately provocative with a "If you want to find out more ...." tag at the end pointing to a slightly slower "scientific" only version of the video above.

Thanks Tim, hell i fell like I have epic failed on this one.

One big criticism which was a constant with the other downsize videos I have done is I never appear in the video and I never obtained a comment from the company I was covering, many people said on tube comments I was hiding behind the product I was detailing. Well this time I have added this.

Tim this video had to go via some legal advice and believe me I wanted a stronger point made, that's all I can say on that in open forum. I could not make a video based on your good advice.

It seems to be generating many comments (80 in the first day), and people are answering the final questions, that tells me they are watching the WHOLE video. It's early days time will tell.

It was a very nice video, but why did it take 9 months to make?

The Big Mac was first created in my home town Pittsburgh PA, and I love them.

The ones in our area are closer in size the the small one in your video,

I think the criticism was right. This video definitely benefits from the addition of both of these.

I will try to answer this without getting too detailed.

I was at school and in my class was a McD staffer, this revealed to me McD were about to trial tiny bun sets termed classic ( I think these are found on UK Big Macs) This had me on the sniff of a downsize video. Yes the trial period happened early in 2009 about a year ago.

I knew I had really old footage of a Big Mac, this had me doing research on the old styrene boxes, and after many phone calls I was given some important info which really helped me. Believe me I tried for 6 months to obtain a old Big Mac Styrene box, but the collectors never replied my mail, I was not in their loop and they tend to protect the McD world.

Then I had to research old Redhead matches, this was a little more difficult as collectors did not what to know me. In the end my mum had some Lady Di 1981 matches. This confirmed the matches have not changed.

I had to shoot various amounts of footage always keeping the same clothes on, you will notice in some parts I am not clean shaved. The measure up took 3 attempts before I was happy.

I did interview some people (customers) at McD but these interviews looked set up, as I found from my Cadbury video people are not convinced by Joe Public interviews.

Last October I visited McD HQ, their mail reply took around 4 weeks I thought they fobbed me off to be honest. They did ask me not to upload the video.

The video went through all sorts of editing changes, especially the wording and I had to always keep it as a question for the audience. The video is attracting many comments and some very interesting ones as well. So leaving the video like this was not my first option. I wanted to make a fact about it. Legal advice said not to. Remember I have no complaint against McD all I am doing is showing the size relationships of various items.

Like many on this forum I have a close network of good video friends who I know from a old video club in my hometown. This video did the rounds via e-mail several times and many changes were made from their input. It is the most work shopped video I have ever produced.

One of the big changes was changing the speed of my read through, initially it was quite slow, it was made quite faster and this shaved off 30 seconds of screen time. On youtube you have a audience with a very tiny attention span, usually content over 90 seconds will sink.

I hope this gives you a insight behind this video, in no way rushed production.

Far more shocking to me than the possibility that Big Macs have been reduced in size, is the fact that there are people on this planet who collect Big Mac styrene boxes
It seems even more bizarre that when their somewhat specialised hobby has it's chance to be shown to have some use, they decline the offer
