    Default Camera advice please

    Hi all

I am a journalist moving from press into documentary. Most of my films will be shot by professionals while I do the background research and running but I would like to buy a low maintenance camcorder to shoot the odd interview or setting to support them. I will also need it to shoot some background material to show editors.

I have a very low budget of around 500 but wondered whether any of you could give me pointers as to what make/format a camera I should opt for to get pretty good quality images and decent enough sound. Any pointers on your fave editing software would also be really helpful.

    Thank you all in advance!

Please don't take offence but if I was you I'd leave the camera work the the camera men/women. With a budget of only 500 you could spend most of that just on a good mic. If you intend doing interviews you will need good sound equipment so that leaves no budget for a camera.

Thank you - I have not taken offence at all.

However, I do need a camera for filming basic things at pitch and research level to editors. So the film won't necessarily be used. The professional stuff I will leave to the professionals!

So if anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
