    Default "Lighthouse"/"Sweeping light" effect

    Hello all

I am working in After Effects CS3, and I need some help.

I have black text (.psd) on a black background, and I would like to create an effect where it looks like the light from a lighthouse sweeps horizontally over the screen, and when it "hits" the text it "appears" as black letters in the light. The best I have manged so far is to put a white text layer behind, use radial blur, and move the center. This however does not resemble the source of the light having a fix point (a lighthouse), instead it looks like the lightsource moves.

Anyone knows how I can do a "lighthouse ray of light"?

    Thank you

You need some kind of spot light effect. There are some great AE tutorials on the Video CoPilot site try searching around this site for what you want.

The nearest thing I can think of (but then I'm just an AE dabbler) is the "Lens Flare" effect which is not quite what you're after but probably a bit more realistic.
