Default can i have wide screen in patinum 9

Im currently using vegas movie studio 9 im thinking of upgrading it to the platinum version so i can render in hd, does this programm upload to youtube in widescreen instead of having black bars on the side, or will i have to still use the pan and crop ?

If your original footage is 4:3 you can stretch the image to widescreen (16:9) if that's what you want to do. Or keep the black bars either side of the picture or as you say fit the image to a widescreen size by cutting off the top and bottom bits of you picture using the Pan/Crop tool.

go to project properties, Icon top left of menu bar or (I think) top left of Preview window and select the project from there, that should get you widescreen.

When you render look for a HD template from the drop down list

So if i bought platinum i have to use the pan and crop tool to make it wide screen still?

If you have 4:3 footage then yes, but if you have 16:9 then no and it is also no for the version you have. ( I think)
