Thread: Difference between 3ds Max and After Effects?

  1. Default Difference between 3ds Max and After Effects?

Hey, I'm just trying to understand something really fast. What is the difference between After Effects and 3ds Max? Now I understand that 3ds max can actually model and render 3d Effects and what not. I believe it can also animate them, but then how does After Effects come into play? What are the roles of the 2 programs, where do they overlap, and where are they most commonly used?

If I'm interested in making effects in videos, and am creating 3d environments for text and what not, is there any need for me to mess with 3ds max, or any advantages to working with 3ds max that I would gain from 3ds max and not from after effects? Thanks!

In my mind there is no overlap between them.

    3DS Max is a 3d modelling s/w

After Effects is a compositing and motion graphics tool!

    Completely different.
