Thumbs up Best way to block out a number plate

I've been playing around in Vegas trying to block out a car number plate. Who's got the best way of doing it. I don't know if a block colour or a blur works best.

    Ideas ?

I haven't work with Vegas but if you have the blur option, I think it is the best way of masking a car's plate.

How do you put a blur on just the small section of the screen ?

Just done this as it happens.
    What I'd always assumed was:
Track 1 & Track 2 contain two copies of the same video.
On track 1 use pan & crop with Bezier mask to cut out the numberplate and then either apply Sony Pixelate or Gaussian Blur to the numberplate. Jobe done. Right?

Nope. Pixellate may well work if the number playe is the right sort of size.

Gaussian blur definitely doesn't. In fact the more you blur the clearer the number becomes. I'm still trying to get my head around why that happens.

Anyway, I needed a quick fix and asked my guru - this forum.

Marks answer in this thread woprked for me, though I have used the gaussian blur method perfectly successfully to smudge out naughty bits!

I put a mask round the number plate on the top track and put a Pixelate effect on it. I did find that I had to use different settings (pixel size) depending on the distance of the shot.

I tried the blur to see what happens and like you said it makes the mask transparent as you increase the blur effect.
