Default Get files from DVD and make into managable files?

    Hello

We recently had old vhs home movies converted to DVD, which is wonderful except that it has no scenes, just continuous play.

I had hoped to be able to share some files with indivudal family members (I didn't know you couldn't take the movie off the dvd like a normal file) .

So I think what I need is something to convert the dvd to mpeg and then something to be able to edit that into managable files.

Any help, like what software can do this would be great.

Actually, if what I think I need to do isn't right, I'd like a correction on that too please.

    Thank you.

I've used a programme called Magic DVD Ripper which seems to work OK.

    DVD files ARE mpeg files.

The latest versions of a bundle of editors will allow yout to import the VOB files straight from a DVD.

Getting a 'smart' render is the trick though.
