Default Transferring a VHS from a really old VCR to PC

I am trying to convert some old family tapes onto my pc. The VCR is very old and has a RF output and an AERIAL socket on the back. Thats all.

I've tried using a standard aerial cable going from the RF output on the VCR to the AERIAL socket on my TV tuner/capture card on my pc. Then using my TV viewing software tuning into the VCR frequency and capturing from there.

But the quality is very bad and im not sure why. Wrong cable? The VCR is too old?

I also have access to a camcorder if that would make things easier?

    Thanks very much.

Not suprised you're getting cooky results with an old player. See if you can source a newer recorder with a SCART socket.

I will try and lend my friends newer VCR then. I suspected that the old age is the cause. Thanks very much Marc.

Ok, so i have a newer VCR than previously (with a SCART socket).

What type of connection is best for capturing. On my capture card theres a A/V In socket (its got 9 pins), for which theres is an adapter for S-video and composite video.

    Thanks

SCART to S-Video should do the trick.

Thanks Marc and sorry for all the questions but do you know of any good capture programs? Ive tried using WinFastPVR which came with my card but its just not recognising the VCR when i select S-Video as the input source.
