    Default Liteon DVD Recoder problems

Don't know if I'm in the right forum for this but I've just bought a Liteon LVW-5006 DVD Recorder with a view to copying lots of old home videos to DVD and also producing DVDs from footage edited in Premier.

Output from Premier works well via the analogue inputs and the finalised disks (+or-) seem to play back on most standalones except my AudioLogic TV/DVD combo - any ideas?

I also frequently produce videos for other people and am considering getting my master disc duplicated - will this produce the same problem of incompatibility?

    Thanks
    John

Its probably just a case of your AudioLogic TV/DVD combo not supporting -R/+R media.

If you have your master DVD professionally duplicated to DVD ROM then this problem will be eliminated.

COMPAQ something or other with 500Gb Boot Disk, 1Tb external Firewire Disk, 4Gb Memory and a super duper sound card, 19" TFT Monitor etc etc etc
    Sony TRV33e : Sony TRV310e : Canon XM2
Sony Vegas Studio editions to v11

The Audiologic plays back DVD+RWs recorded in a Phillips recorder that I borrowed to try so why not the Liteon?

Bought the Liteon for its dual +/- feature.

Also I've just found that when copying from VHS to DVD via Scart the playback seems to jump/freeze/ jitter for a fraction of a second every few mins - this also didn't happen with the Phillips - have I got a dud or just bought the wrong machine?

I have your exact same DVD burner. It works perfect too.
I also had your same exact problem, My DVD player was a combo
VCR-DVD player but it was only 1 year old, So I thought it not being that
old it should play DVD+R/-R/-+RW And it did play some of them.
But for the most part I was chucking a lot of DVDs in the trash thinking
I made bad copies. But the whole time it was the damn DVD player.
I baught a new Sony that says DVD+R\DVD-R\DVD-RW right on the
side of the player and all the ones that didnt work in my old one
work perfect in the new, got tired of having coaster that wont play.
I would just upgrade your DVD player.

    Thanks Shock - I think I agree it's just an old-ish player.

More worrying is the jittery playback on VHS to DVDs copied through the SCART - any ideas on this ?

Also has anyone any experience of trying to export DV from Premier to the Liteon via the Firewire? Analogue export from the timeline works fine.

    Default playback issues

I have the liteon recorder too.
No problems with 99% of dvds burned..

Most problems are down to firmware on the standalone and also the liteon+brand of media too and software used to burn it.

For max compatability use ritek g04 / 05 media generally on mirror ect and nero v6 and above and liteon fireware 4 or 5.

The m-UDF format used by dvd for -r and +r is still very dicey...when it comes to compatability.

Jittery playback can be caused by driver issues with firewire, hard disk speed and type of connection between hd and motherbaord.
Transfer rates are based on bus speeds, If the cable is connected to other devices then this may present jams in speed, So when you try to present your video to the firewire card output it is choking...

    hope this helps..
