Thread: Make a song end smoothly?

  1. Default Make a song end smoothly?

I'm working on a Christmas video project and I have a song that I want to end smoothly.
I just want the last note of the attached song to go on for a little longer so it has more time to fade out, if I fade it out at the moment there is not enough room for a nice long fade.
I've tried lots of things, simply cutting the end makes it sound like it's suddenly cut off. Cutting and slowing down the end note gives it a choppy effect. Copying and pasting samples of the end note is obvious as the sound kinda repeats.

I use Sony Vegas pro 9.0, also tried some of audacity's effects too with no luck.

    Thanks for any help,
    Luke.

Firstly it would help if you hadn't already cut the note short. Secondly how much longer do you want it ?

Apologies, I cut it right to the edge of the note so it was obvious where I wanted the ending.
I've re-attached it making it a little longer, I would like the song to finish at around 00:21, maintaing that end note before it picks back up please.
I would like it to be about 5 to 10 seconds long if possible please, that way it's easy to get a nice fade.

Apologies for not giving enough info and thanks for your help,
    Luke.

No worries I've already done it, if I've understood what you wanted. If not I'll await further instructions.

Thanks dusty, I may use that - but I think you may have misunderstood me, I didn't want it fading, I wanted the end note extending.

    Thanks anyway,
    Luke.

My guess: you used something like Garageband or a Windows alternative to match up and substitute the end note?
