Thread: How can I increase the size (resolution) of my video in FCP?

Default How can I increase the size (resolution) of my video in FCP?

    Problem:
When I view the video I have large black bars on all four sides making the screen very small. I realize it is due to the low quality resolution of the originals. Source video clips captured from my 5 Mpixel digital camera (not camcorder). Resolution is 720x480.

    My workflow:
I am using FCP 4.5 to edit. Exporting to QuickTime Movie (using defaults)
Import to iMovie 5.0.2 (I had to add this step just so I can then import to iDVD)
iDVD 7.0.4 to compose DVD title

    My question:
Is there a way to upconvert the video in FCP to fill the screen so I do not have the black picture frame around my video?

    Thanks for the reply!

    Here are my sequence settings:
    720x480 NTSC DV(3:2)
    pixel aspect ratio: NTSC-CCIR 601/DV
    QT video Compressor settings: DV/DSCPro-NTSC.

What should I change it to?

Ah, I think I have got it! I changed frame size to 1080x720. Render sequence again. Export to QT. Import into new iMovie project (type Mpeg 4). Perfect! Thanks for the help!!

    No Problem,
You could go as far as 1280 x 72o providng that you've no distortion problems.
    Good luck
