Thread: compression for size not quality

Default compression for size not quality

Hi, I have googled googled and googled, Im still googling. Every tut I come across keeps saying how to set the render up for best results. I have some crappy cam vids I want to put on photobucket for my sister. The file is only 16.9 mb, the quality is pretty poor so rendering for quality is not an issue. When I set up the rendering to what tuts recommend (both from forums and youtube) vegas spits it out at 122 mb. The only reason I have ran it through vegas is to adjust the brightness and contrast for her and add a few funny subtitles. Is there something I am missing here or is just vegas is not the best app for compressing ?? I know I can use fraps but for the sake of a few little vids I would rather use vegas. I am using sony vegas 8.

    Thanks for any input.

ps - I live in Australia, we have upload/download caps here or I would not worry about it.

EDIT - Update, I have been playing with the settings, I changed the bit rate setting from VBR to CBR and got it back to 52 mb. Is this the smallest I can get it ? (I can live with that if I have too)

You haven't told us any details of the source footage.
Fundamentally what you need to do is find out those details (download and run GSpot) then match your project settings and render setting to that.

Mate your a champion, I always miss the simple things, after reading your reply I simply checked the properties on the original file and matched the frame rate (as close as I could) to the project settings and bingo, worked like a charm.

    Thank you
