Default Sony DRC-TRV255E - Help Please

Hi I'm brand new to this video editing game and quite frankly I'm a tad miffed by the whole thing.

I just bought the sony handy cam DV and have managed to hook it up to my PC no problem. I have Pinnical studio 7 and can capture the video no problem. The quality however is rubish, I'm loosing frames and the whole thing pixalates when I burn it to DVD or VCD. At the minute I'm looking to upgrade to Sony ilink (firewire) which I think will improve the picture quality? Can you advise me what I need to buy bearing in mind I'm on a budget. Are all firewire cards and leads compatable with sony and will it deffinately improve the picture quality?

Also I'm confused by the whole convertion thing....do I need aditional software or will pinnical do this for me?

    Many Thanks

    Helen

Generally speaking connecting via firewire will solve your problem. Any old firewire could should do the trick.
