The fact that I didn't even notice the intricacies of the camera work is a sign of how good it was.
Just give me 10 years more experience and I'll be back to take you on.

The more you watch films (as a movie maker) and read critcisms on forums such as this the more you become aware of such things. I'm sure nine months ago I wouldn't have spotted it.

I liken it to appreciation of bands (especially on the semi pro circuit). Whilst 90% of people will agree on one competent band being better than another, only maybe 5% will be able to tell you why. Does that matter? Not at all - unless you play in a band yourself and want to improve.

I've notice I'm watching movies with a slightly different eye now compared to a couple of months ago when I joined this forum. I sometime like to play guess the editing cuts ie try and predict when they will go from a long shot to close up, over the shoulder, reaction shot. etc. It helps to improve otherwise poor movies. lol

There is a downside of course when you keep thinking about the composition, lighting etc and then have to ask the wife what on earth is going on as you have not followed the plot.

Very true, which is why I find listening to classical music I'm much more able to take it in as a whole than when listening to rock.

There are currently no plans for the next video competition. These are generally held annually; the low participation rate doesn't justifty anything more frequent. Video of the Month will however be returning in the near future.
