    Default DVD Sizes and burning

I use Sonic MyDVD to burn my DVDs I think its called "Record now"
it burns DVD-5 4.7 gig DVDs. My question is will my Liteon DVD burner
    and software burn DVD-8, DVD-9, Or even DVD-16 ?
Or will I need different hardware and software to burn DVDs that are not
DVD-5 ? And where can one buy Blank DVDs larger then DVD-5 ?

DVD-5 discs are single layer DVDs. They have a capicty of approx 4.7GB as you've said. These can be created in standard, single layer DVD writers.

DVD-9 is also know as dual-layer DVDs which hold twice the amount of data. To burn to this type of media you need to write using a dual layer burner.

DVD-10 is also known as a "flipper" - they can hold data on both sides of the disc and are essentially two DVD-5s stuck together (don't do this as you will probably make your DVD player explode).

    DVD-18 is to DVD-9 as DVD-10 is to DVD-5

If you don't have a dual layer burner, yes.
