This would depend greatly on what type of footage you're going to edit and how complicated you edits are going to be.

For example a Pentium 4 will work fine if you're working with dv.

If you are likely to go HD anytime in the future then i'd recommend getting an i7 processor. they are amazing! Although we still work with DV video, there's nothing wrong with wanting the speed and stability you get with an i7 processor.

Thats ofcourse you have to money. otherwise a core 2 duo will work just as well and should be able to do HDV.

I'd recomend getting as much ram as possible but don't go silly like 64GB. 8GB will be plenty.

A 64 bit operating system is a must to get the full benifit from cs4.

i've always work with 2 hard drive. one for the os and one for footage then i'd backup my masters onto dvds and an external hard drive. there is no need for a raid as hard drives are fast enough now days and are normally not the bottle neck of a system like they were 10 years ago.

    make sure you get firewire.

    thats about it.

would you like me to list some parts for you?
