I've spent the majority of the day trying (and failing) to track down a particular type of sound effect found in abundance in many Sci-Fi oriented TV shows from the 70's and 80's. It was used plenty in shows such as The Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman, Incredible Hulk etc and I've even heard it in episodes of Knight Rider, and Airwolf.
It is usually heard as a part of the background noise in scenes where there is any computer activity on a large scale. It starts with a long tone and then a series of 7 -10 shorter shounding beeps with the last beep in the sequence being of a higher pitch thand the others. It may also have some sort of teletype sound included embedded with it.
You can hear it clearly right at the start of this clip from the Bionic Woman I found on youtube. The effect can be heard at various points throughout the clip but the first one is the clearest.
I've been trawling for ages through Free Sound Effect Sites and discussions on popular and well known sound effects but can find no mention of it. Does anyone know what the correct name for this sound is? Or does any one have a clear copy of it an any format?
I find it hard to believe this has not got a mention somewhere. Anyone my age (late 30s) would remember it as it was pretty much in every show I used to watch when I was a kid.
Any pointers to its name or location would be gratefully received.
