Yes indeed; infact I discovered Detonation Films AFTER I'd shelled out for Particle Illusion, which was slightly upsetting as their footage is obviously much more realistic than you can hope to get with Particle Illusion, and completely free as well. I was kicking myself.

Detonation Films come highly recommended. They've been very helpful to me in the making of The Forest, even going to far as putting up a link to it! Top blokes, use their stuff.

Very high quality stuff indeed. I used two effects in my competition entry "Papercut", an explosion and smoke effect. They also have some info on how to make those effects yourself.

Brilliant - thanks for pointing these out!

Question though, I've downloaded a plume of smoke, which when overlaid in Premiere 6.5, of course appears from the bottom of the frame.

Is there any way of making the plume of smoke appear to originiate from somewehere else in the frame?

It has been a long time since I used Premiere but there was a "motion" option that allows you to position and size the video/image, in this case your smoke layer.

    Good luck,

    Thanks for the link.

I can get rid of the blue and green baclgrounds in Premiere Pro, but how do you get rid of the black backgrounds?

Luma key will work best probably, or try using it as a moving matte.

    Good luck,

I've tried it with the Luma keying and they look poor.

The help video on the site mentions Video Options and then select "Screen" - these options seem to be on an older version of PP though....

Premiere 4 had a "screen" function, newer versions should have at least equal if not better options I'd think. I used luma keying in my editig software Edit Studio, you can see the result on my website in the video section, >2000 called "Papercut". It was entered for the video competition here a while ago. Towards the end you see two of their effects, explosion and smoke. Premiere should be able to do that without any problems.

    good luck,
