Question Splicing in Sony Vegas Pro

This is a dumb question, I know. I'm used to working in Final Cut Pro and am having a hard time finding simple actions in Sony Vegas Pro. I tried an internet search and a search within the program itself.

Here's my question.... how do you splice? I'm not sure what the word would be for Vegas Pro.... but when I place a video on the timeline, it overlaps everything I have so I have to manually drag everything across.

How do I set it up so that when I enter a video, everything AFTER will be pushed back, stay in order, and not overlap?

    Thanks for the help.

    Default

    Auto Ripple . . . . .

    Before
    [EventA][EventB][EventC]

    After
    [EventA][EventD][EventB][EventC]

Select/Click on the AutoRipple Icon OR Ctrl+L > Drag EventD from ANYWHERE to OUT of EventA, it WILL highlight, let go and all the rest will Ripple RIGHT!!

You will notice you have a drop-down option next to the AR Icon, have a look and you get even MORE Timeline control.
