    Crops - Short Film (2009)

So, here we have our first short film. Shot and acted by my sister and I.

When a boy goes to recover a ball kicked into a neighbouring field, he gets more than he bargained for...

Any comments welcome; I'd like to hear what we've done wrong as constructive criticism, but I also wouldn't mind hearing what we've done right (if we have at all) of course!

One thing I already know we did wrong is do hand-held shots, but seriously, I didn't expect it to be such hard work!

    Stuff used...

    Canon HF100
    Tripod
    Homemade Steadicam
    Sony Vegas

Good first attempt. Who said fim making was going to be easy?
Take it serious but not enought to spoil the enjoyment of it!

Well I would have been very pleased with myself if I had produced that.

    What I didnt like

The titles - not a great font and a bit weedy.
That you didnt meet an alien and I didnt get to see some high tech alien euipment

    What I did like

Brother and sister working together, my sister hit me with a shovel !
The intro music setting the scene for a lovely day
The acting was pretty good, not perfect but pretty good!
You succeeded in building tension and had me hooked into watching.
The filming was really very good, the shots were steady but always benefit from support
It reminded me of several mainstream films I have watched

I would certainly watch anything else you make so a big well done to you both!

Very enjoyable. You seem to have picked up many of the key elements of filmmaking.

There are a few things that I thought could be tidied up which I'll gladly list if you want but I don't have time right now!

Most importantly you seem to have understood the most important aspect of making good visuals - which is good sound!

Looking forward to your next venture. This time with tripod & far less use of de-shaking software.

Could you list, if you have time of course?

Thats a great little video, I really enjoyed it.

For me the music really drove the video, and if I was to say anything against it I would have tightened up the start edit where the ball is seen to be kicking around, and maybe added in a line (or sign) related to the mysterious crop, so it's setting up the scene.

Fantastic use of FACES in the video, nice to see, I also loved the camera moves, hopefully this will be included in video of the month, it's not my call there are others who decide.
I know nothing about youtube, even less about video

It was a really enjoyable short film. I would be really proud, if I created something like that.

I agree with most of the comments on here. So, I don't really need to say anything more. Just keep it up. I'm now subscribed.

I would not be overly critical of it, as a first attempt its pretty good. When I studied film there were people at the end of the course who still couldn't put something together as well as you did so based on that I would say you did very well! Good luck with number 2

Nice feel to that. You didn't need to say anything about aliens, yet we all think it anyway! I like that you kept the colors nice and bright too. Fun!
