Default Sony vegas pro 8.0c (Build 260) Preview problem

Hi All this is driving me absolutely mental someone must know the solution

When i view any video within vegas via the explorer option it displays in the preview window nice and bright when i add a video too the timeline and preview it the image quality drops as does the brightness regardless of the quality.

The only way around this appears too be rendering the video in clips once they are complete before adding them back too the time line. Is this normal for vegas too do as its very difficult working with videos like this

The video's are captured from a Haupage HD PVR box.
    The project is 1440x1090x32, 23.976p
    The preview is 1440x1080x32 23.976p

I have tried all the different resolutions when creating a new project my project settings are

    Template HD 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970fps)
width 1,920 Field order Upper field first
Height 1,080 Pixel aspect 1.0000 (square)
    Output rotation 0Degress (original)
    Frame rate 29,970 (NTSC)
    Pixel format 8-bit
    Compositing gamma 2,222 (video)
    Full-resolution rendering quality Best
    Motion blur type Gaussian
    Deinterlace method None

Laptop is a Dell D630 Core 2 duo centrino
    2 Gig Ram
    Lots of disk space
    Nvidia Quadro NVS 135m (256MB)

I have reset everything too defaults and checked every setting possible. I run dual displays with my laptop being screen 1 and a TFT as screen 2. I only use vegas on screen 2.

    Just questions, so far:-

1] Why are you setting Project at Interlace when your media is Progressive?

2] Why are you setting project at 32-bit?

3 ] Why are you setting a Project Frame rate at 29.97 when your media is at 23.976?

4] Have you tried the Match Media option for your Project?

    Hi Grazie

    1. That would be because i am an idiot!!!!!!!!!
    2. I have created a new template

    Field Order progressive
    Pixel aspect 1.0000 (square)
    Frame rate 23.976 (IVTC Film)
    Pixel format 8 bit

Its so much better in HDV 720-24p (1280x720, 23,967 fps) but i am not sure what you mean by media match.

You really are a star Grazie this was driving me insaine

Oh, if you look at the Project Properties > Video Tab > and on the "Template" line you'll see a FOLDER, which is the "Match Media Settings . . " and if you click on it and navigate to one of the bits of Media you INTENDED to use Vegas is Smart enough to grab the nearest Template for you! Neat huh?

What you could do is do THIS first then tweak your own Project Settings and then SAVE THAT new one to be used at some time in the future.

As soon as you asked the questions i knew what i'd done wrong. Done the media match that is cool its upped the project too 1920x1080x32 too match the source better.

    Thanks a shed load Grazie
