Default Windows Movie Maker cannot take files over 60mb

I know someone who needs to edit some videos, ranging from a few megabytes to a few gigabytes, but windows movie maker crashes as soon as he uploads the ones over 50-60mb. Is there anything i can do to moviemaker/his computer to help this problem, or is there a free software that will be able to take these files without crashing?

    Thanks

Download a 30 day trial version of either Sony Vegas Platinum 9 or Adobe Premiere Elements 7 and try them out.
