Thread: Video fine in Movie Maker is blurry in Vegas

  1. Default Video fine in Movie Maker is blurry in Vegas

    Hi everybody
When we import video footage into Windows Movie Maker it looks fine but
when we import it into Sony Vegas 9 it's all blurry, (same thing happens if we capture video from the camcorder).
We've tried searching the forum for an answer, as we thought it was probably obvious, but havent found anything.
We'd be very grateful for any help.

    Thanks

    Blurry where?
If in the video preview window, Vegas allows you to balance quality of picture vs no frames per second.
There's a "quality" button in the top of the preview window. Switch that to "Best | Full" for when you're working with colour correction/FX and you have a static image (ie you are not playing the video on the timeline)
As you introduce more FX etc you will have to reduce the quality so the frames per second can keep up with all the work that the PC is doing.
To put it another way, I work with the preview in "Preview" or even "Draft" if I'm editing for timing (ie getting my cuts in exactly the right place, and in "Best" when I'm working on fine detail in the image.
The preview quality has NO bearing on the result of the render (the video file you output)

I would add to Tim excellent post that if you want to see what the end result is going to be like, highlight a short section of the timeline and render just that part, so that it wont take too long to see if the end result isnt how you expect it to be.

Many thanks Tim for sorting us out, & CamCoat.
We didnt realise what level of beast we'd be trying to control when we bought Vegas.
