    Default Maryport Blues

Here's a video for those of you who like Blues music.
If you don't like the pictures just close your eyes.
    Enjoy!

I never knew this festival existed. Shame my best friend from gone by moved from Cumbria to Spain a couple of years back or I'd be up there for next years festival like a shot.

To be honest, I enjoyed the music more than the video. The two didn't really seem to gel that well with two exceptions - the guy playing the harp (I assume it was live sound though clearly not synced throughout) and when it cut to night-time shots.

I think it's just that the blues doesn't really go with touristy daytime shots - New Orleans being an exception.

I did enjoy it, but was disappointed - if that makes sense?

    Thanks for the comments Tim...

Maryport Blues is now recognised as the largest Blues Festival in the world, which is pretty amasing considering the size of this very small town and the location. You'd have enjoyed it here!

We agree with the comments of the music in places not fitting the images, especially during the cafe sequence.

This one was alway going to be difficult with an almost impossible brief.

    1. Include blues type music most of the way through. (We composed, recorded and mixed our own).
    2. We weren't allowed to interview or film any of the main artists. (Legal stuff)
    3. Were obliged to show the tourist side or Maryport.

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians I'm afraid.

This was always going to be a challenge and we settled for a compromise of having a good music soundtrack and general footage of the punters, Sort of a music videoish tourist type of approach. (If there is such a thing!)

Not the best but worth a look.

    Ye-ouch! Tricky brief!
Thinking about how I may have approached it (with the benefit of hindsight) it may have been worth trying more of a video montage approach - with different clips showing at the same time, and maybe some heavy colouration fx/tints/monochrome etc. There again, that may have been even more inappropriate.

That might have been a great idea Tim, or maybe not its always difficult.

Another idea I had was to montage stills from past visitors, big names like Chuck Berryand BB King backed up with good music.

Hind sight.....A wonderful thing..I might take up knitting
