Thread: Best way of capturing vows....

  1. Default Best way of capturing vows....

Hey guys I need a bit of help again! I just met this client who told me they want thier vows recorded, and I am unsure how to do this.

I was thinking of few ways I can do this..

There WILL be a mic set up there with the audio guy, I would ask him if I could hook up a computer OR my 2nd camera to his system so I can get the live feed into that

i can get my OWN mic up there wirelessly and have it hooked up to reciever and then hooked up to my computer OR 2nd camera recording the audio

I can get my own lavlier set up but isnt it hard to do that for a bride?

use my camera's shotgun mic (do NOT want to use this option..too risky)

    what would you guys suggest?

    Hi

A radio mic on the groom (cos he has a dark suit) is all you need and plug the receiver into your main camera not your second one. You should be running a cam on the couple thru the entire ceremony (with audio from the radio mic) and then use your 2nd camera for cutaways and the like.

The grrom's mic will capture all essential audio from the bride, groom and minister

I do around 30 weddings a season and never have an audio issue

    Hi

Bad news idea!!!! You will firstly blow the mic away if the PA is too loud and have incredible distortion and really it's not a good idea to try and record second generation audio!! If the PA is too soft all you will get is either ambient noise from the general environment and most likely a lot of amplifier noise too!!

Far better to mic the couple correctly and record the audio at source!!! If the priest is too soft that's really not a big deal. The object of the exercise is to get clear audio of their vows as they are the topic of the video.
