Thread: Child/Parent compositing

  1. Default Child/Parent compositing

    Hi,

Just spending a few rainy Sunday afternoon hours playing with Vegas and working through Douglas Spotted's great guide.

Thing is I'm a bit stuck on the child/parent masking section. In a nutshell, according to the book you lay three events down (one on video track 3 / the second on video track 2 and some titles on video track 1).

Then, apparently, you click Make Child Compositing button on track 2 and the text on track 1 becomes transparent and shows the image on track 2 through the letters (I think).

Problem is, when I click the Make Compositing Child button (arrow pointing down) nothing happens at all. I've tried fiddling with Media alpha properties as suggested in book but this doesn't seem to change anyhting either.

Does anyone know if I have an option ticked or am missing something obvious which is stopping my titles from becoming transparent?

    Many thanks

    Matt

Can you explain in more detail waht you have on each track. I'm, assuming white text on track 1... but the other tracks?

Sure Tim, I've got a standard video clip on track two and a media generated solid colour background on track three.

    OK
Track 3 - Solid Colour Generated Media
    Track 2 - Some video
    Track 1 - Generated text.

    Make track 2 compositing child

    (All this you have done)

Track 1 - change COMPOSITING MODE (icon to the immediate right of the LEVEL slider in the track header) to "Multiply (Mask)"
